Almost every current definition of leadership contains the word “influence”. It appears that leaders are seen as those who influence the lives of others.  However, in a myopic world where leaders are the primary objective and followers are often overlooked, it is important to understand how followers influence others as well.  The diagram below outlines a traditional dyadic flowchart that is found in most businesses.

What happens when a key follower decides that he or she is not going to follow any more? The end result is catastrophic and shows the amount of influence followers have over entire organizations.
